Setting up a file for commercial print can be complex especially if you are attempting it for the first time. Speak to one of our experienced staff members at Chambers Whyte Design and Print before starting any large job if you are unsure, as it may save you valuable time and money down the track.
To ensure your print job runs as smoothly as possible and meets your expectations always check and complete the following:
Spell check and proof read your job. Most programs come with a built in spell check option.
Create the document the actual size it will be printed to avoid confusion about the size and poor quality from enlargement.
Supply your file as single pages for book work and flat sheets or spreads are acceptable for book covers and folded jobs.
Ensure the colour mode is CMYK not RGB, including all images and vectors, to make sure the colour prints as you expect.
Make sure that any PMS colours or die lines are nominated and separate correctly.
All images must be 300ppi to give the best print quality.
Set all large areas of black to C40% M20% Y0% K100% to make sure you get a rich black.
Set all fine text to K100% only to make sure it prints nice and sharp.
Label your file so it is easily identifiable with your order.
If supplying working files make sure you supply all fonts and linked images that are not embedded or outlined.
- Include 3mm bleed, trim marks and keep any text or borders 4mm away from the document trim/edge to avoid vital elements being trimmed off as shown below:
Accepted Files and Programs
We always prefer ‘press quality’ high resolution PDFs with 3mm Bleed. Make sure all fonts and images are embedded in the PDF.
We can accept the following formats.
If unsure about how to supply files or you can't supply any of these file types please contact our pre-press team who will be glad to help.
Supplying Files for Print
When supplying files for a product to be purchased from our online print shop you will be required to make one of the following choices from a drop down menu. Please choose carefully as if not supplied correctly your file may not print how you expect and may cause delays. If you need to resupply your file extra charges may apply so please make sure it is prepared correctly or otherwise choose 'Make my artwork print ready'. Please read our File Specifications to make an informed decision before selecting your choice.
'My artwork is print ready and setup to file specifications'
If selecting this option your print file must be print ready for commercial press and setup to our File Specifications. If you are unsure please select 'Make my artwork print ready' so we can check you file and make sure it will print as you require it. If you supply print ready artwork we always endeavour to inform our clients of any possible problems that may occur but can not be held responsible for any files that are not supplied correctly. We always suggest that files be created by qualified graphic designers experienced in the pre-press and print industry. Print Ready files are preferably to be supplied as PDF with 3mm bleed and crop marks. We can except other file types.
'Make my artwork print ready'
If selecting this option your file will be made acceptable for commercial printing by Chambers Whyte Design and Print. We will check that internal and external bleed and margins are correct, the size is correct, the file is setup to the correct CMYK colour profile, fonts will print correctly and any other issues that may arise. This is not a graphic design service so any mispelt words or layout adjustments will be made with the discretion of Chambers Whyte Design and Print. A PDF proof will be supplied for your approval prior to print. Please note when ordering to include all artwork, images and any fonts in a zip file along with any instructions in the comments field.
If you require graphic design please Request a Quote and outline your requirements including the turnaround time required.
